I recognized that The Sims is a pretty big franchise on Mac, especially on The Sims 4. I mainly play on PC, but I recently bought a Mac to start learning iOS development for school. just so i can attempt to follow (with a few path changes, of course) the steps you listed, i also own the digital deluxe version.Okay, this is just ridiculous and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. (edit: trying to get Origin to work again under an older WINE version. WINE/PoL made it possible to bypass these limitations and let us play our games. Of course, the bottom line is, that Linux-based OSs are not supported. so unless i'm missing something, since it's not in my library/games list i can't follow your guide and add it that way. the properties at Origin website won't load and my EA account history only shows my receipt number from when i bought my game.

this means i can't access my serial number, which Steam requires to install unlisted games. Now, since Origin won't install at all, i don't have a path file to it. then logging in was possible, enabling users to successfully redownload their owned games. before this started, it would install fine and only crash at the end, something that was easily solved after a reboot. same deal for trying to launch it offline. the client tries to update, but after that it says that one would need to be online to login to Origin for the first time. this (afaik) means that older installation tutorials won't work any more.

Origin is now pushing an update to its legacy installer. it was after starting over with a fresh OS when the problems began. not long ago, The Sims 4 worked very well, or as well as it could, on it. i've recently ended up with a laptop running Lubuntu as my primary (for now, only) one. I'm just assuming Sims 4 Deluxe, Digital Deluxe and Standard Edition will have different GameID's. If any IDs matched the ID I had, and one did.1015806, this is what I applied to the path we entered in Steam and it worked. Instead, I checked the HTML under the Origin (web) store to see Then I ended up with all the game IDs for the games I had, and had to try each one to see which was Sims 4.

Also, this will still launch Origin, but will also launch The Sims 4.Īlso used this to understand importance of "quotes"! Note: I own the Digital Deluxe version of Sims 4, so this may not work if you have otherwise.

It needs to be completely closed to test. To Test, make sure Origin is not running, check in the system tray too and close/exit it. Under the TARGET field, delete everything - EVERYTHING and add only the following: RIGHT click on The Sims 4 (assuming its added to your library) and choose Properties.Ĥ. This is the busiest I've been at work for a while too!ģ. All new EA games are tied into origin even if you add them to your steam library. I don't think any newer EA games can be bought on steam. Yes TS4 does needs origin and Steam does not sell TS4. The way I understand it TS3 version for steam is a different version than the origin version. It's the same with almost every ubisoft game brought on steam.
#SIMS ON STEAM FOR MAC PATCH#
Ts3 on the older patch may not need origin. TS4 requires Origin and I agree I could not imagine trying to run sims games with a controller when it's a point and click game. They have their own version of the game and it is still on the 1.67 patch I don't know about other EA games on steam. TS3 steam version does not go through origin. but the sims 4 is not one of them, it's one of those games that's just really suited to mouse/keyboard. to my knowledge there is no way around it. Using a origin game on steam is more like a shortcut, you can have it in your library but that's about it.Įven EA games brought on steam launch with origin.

It will only ever launch with the origin overlay, it NEEDS origin. I am wanting to play the game in steam's big picture mode with a controller.
#SIMS ON STEAM FOR MAC HOW TO#
Does anyone know how to launch Sims 4 with steam overlay? I have added the game to my steam library but I can't launch from there, it just launches with origin overlay.
